Help Young Cancer Patients Enjoy Christmas This Season

Intravenous fluids, pain relief medications, adverse reactions, experimental treatments, radiological imaging...does this match the picture of a typical child's Christmas?  For the many children living in southeast Michigan suffering with cancer, this description sadly fits best.  The customary trips to snow-kissed hills for sledding and the time to sit on Santa's lap are removed, along with many other happy holiday moments.  Testing and treatments come first, keeping many of these youth inside hospital rooms with only the monotone beeping of machines to listen to.  In this day of economic difficulty, the astronomical cost of medical care for families is debilitating.  As a result, the usual joys of Christmas can be stripped away from those who are sick.

“Cancer was the darkness that took away my father’s natural light,” says Kimberly Moyers, the co-founder of The Give a Gift Foundation.  “With his memory in mind, this foundation has been able to restore that light in the hearts of others.”  The Give a Gift Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that helps children every year, providing them and their families with monetary help and Christmas gifts.  The organization operates all throughout southeastern Michigan, reaching farther and farther each year, to spread the arms of the community and join them together as one fighting force.

A target sum of $2,000 is needed by December 15th to complete the organization’s artillary of resources.  This will allow plenty of time for the gifts to be packaged and shipped out to the warm receptive hands of local, needy children.  A leading member of The Give a Gift Foundation eloquently states, “The fists of cancer are tough, but they cannot fight a force that’s based upon Love, for nothing is stronger.”  With the help provided and strengthened with the love that comes from a giving heart, these sick children will be able to know more than their illness this coming Christmas Day.
